'What One Man Can Do Another Can Do'
That goes double for women and beyond, but it's a movie quote so hear me out
There’s this amazing movie called The Edge. It stars one of the Baldwin brothers, the one with the greatest number of children under the age of ten, and that guy from Silence of the Lambs who mispronounces chianti.
So Baldwin is having an affair with Chianti’s wife and for some reason, they both wind up on a little plane that has a big plane crash. It’s a fight for survival. At some point, they have to battle a bear that’s been trying to eat them and a third member of their party, the guy from Lost.
Incidentally, the guy from Lost did not age a day in the decade between his role in The Edge and his role on Lost. Good for him. I’d love to know his secret, but I digress.
The bear successfully eats the third member of their party (i.e. Lost guy), leaving the two men, who love one woman, alone with each other and their various personal issues—including the aforementioned bear.
What does this have to do with writing, or more specifically, making money from writing? Hang on. I’m coming to my point super soon.
There’s a scene in the movie where the two surviving men are getting pumped up to kill the bear with selfie sticks. Dammit, autocorrect.
Let’s try that again.
There’s a scene in the movie where the two surviving men are getting pumped up to kill the bear with sharpened sticks, using what the movie explains is a Native American method for trapping and killing bears.
One of the men begins to chant.
“What one man can do another can do.”
The other man joins in.
“What one man can do another can do. What one man can do another can do. What one man can do another can do.”
And what do you think they do?
They kill the damn bear.
Can you make money writing in general? Yes.
Can you make money writing on Medium? Yes.
How do I know?
I know these things because people do indeed make money writing both off and on Medium, and what one man (woman, human, writer) can do, another can do.
So if you’re wondering whether you can make money on Medium, the answer is YES.
And if you’re interested in learning more about how I make money on Medium, then please subscribe to my Substack newsletter, which is currently FREE.

I fucking LOVE that movie.
